The film is set against the backdrop of the 1983 cricket World Cup and will star Ranveer Singh as the lead. The Gully Boy will be seen essaying Kapil Dev, under whose captaincy India won its first World Cup trophy. To keep up the anticipation, the makers have been revealing one cast after another. After Pankaj Tripathi, another actor has been roped in to play a pivotal role.
It’s the role of the legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar, whose character will be essayed by Mardaani villain Tahir Bhasin. Commenting on the same, director Kabir Khan said in a statement, "The casting of Sunil Gavaskar was important since he was one of the superstars of the team. I needed an actor with a certain gravitas to portray the Little Master. Tahir had the persona for that." Tahir, who is excited to join the cast, also stated, “For now, I’m focusing on striking the ball with half the panache that Gavaskar did.”
