Ronnie Screwvala is an Indian entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of UTV Group. Screwvala has backed many debutante directors and even helped the established ones to come out of their comfort zones and make UTV what it is today. He is known to experiment with his projects and in his latest RSVP endeavor, he has signed seven debutante directors with diverse & creative talents.
"We want RSVP to stand for three kinds of storytelling — stories that must be told, stories that we would love to tell and stories that everyone goes to the movies for. Along with some other exceptional talent, we are very proud to associate with some promising debutante directors and writers who see the narrative as we do," Screwvala said in a statement.
Here’s a look at who these seven new faces are and what is to be expected of them?
In his own words, Anand is “an actor, writer, director, and a hopeless lover of theatre, films, and cricket.” Although, he comes with a vast experience in advertising and theatre and will make his directorial debut with RSVP's Love Per Square Foot, featuring Vicky Kaushal and Angira Dhar. The movie is scheduled to premiere on 14th February across 190 countries on OTT platforms.
Akarsh has been a part of the industry for over 15 years and has written award-winning screenplays along with acting in some of the most successful movies at the box office such as Barfi, Koi Mil Gaya etc. Having written scripts for the likes of Anurag Basu and Rakesh Roshan, he is now set to make his acting debut with RSVP's Karwaan featuring Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salmaan and Mithila Palkar. The film will release in theaters worldwide on June 1.
Sneha Taurani is the daughter Tips Music founder Ramesh Taurani and has been working as an assistant director with Ayan Mukerji, Milan Luthria, and Mohit Suri among others. Sneha is all set to make her debut as a director with RSVP's Dance Franchise ‘the first’ of which will be a Bhangra film written by award-winning Punjabi writer Dheeraj Rattan.
Aditya Dhar has worked as an assistant to Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rohan Sippy, Priyadarshan and Vishal Bhardwaj. He has also written screenplays and dialogues for the National Award-winning Short fi ‘Boond’ and lyrics for ‘Kabul Express’. RSVP's URI, which revolves around the landmark moment of 2016 in India's military history featuring Vicky Kaushal, marks his directorial debut.
Vandana won a Filmfare Award as Production Designer for ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ and participated in the Berlinale Talent Campus 2016, and is currently working on Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy. RSVP's Tara ki Shaadi, a heart-warming but brutally honest tale about Tara and set around her wedding plans will be Vandana's first feature film as writer and director.
Originally from Nainital, Amit moved to Mumbai four years ago. In a short time, Amit wrote the highly praised and acclaimed film ‘Trapped’ which recently got nominated for the Best original story and Best Screenplay at the Filmfare awards. Amit now makes his directorial debut at RSVP with a comic-adventure about two buddies who embark on a crazy ride.
An award-winning ad filmmaker, Vasan assisted Anurag Kashyap for a decade, was an associate on Michael Winterbottom's Trishna and co-wrote The Lunchbox. His first film Peddlers (2012) was nominated for the Camera d'Or at Cannes. He now directs RSVP's Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota.
