Salute: Shah Rukh Khan needs a little help from Aamir Khan this time
We all know that Shah Rukh Khan will be soon be stepping into Aamir Khan’s shoes to play the role of astronaut Rakesh Sharma in the upcoming movie Salute. Aamir reportedly passed the project to SRK because after Thugs Of Hindostan shoots are done, he will get busy with the period drama based on the Mahabharat. Since he was extremely impressed with the script of Salute, he thought King Khan would be an apt choice for the role. And now if latest media reports are anything to go by, Shah Rukh is taking Aamir’s help before he starts shooting for the movie.
“King Khan has asked Aamir to help him out with the research he did for the film when he was supposed to do it. Knowing what a perfectionist Aamir is, he must have done detailed research and SRK will only benefit from that,” a source was quoted in a DNA report.
This is probably the first time that a role turned down by Aamir has fallen into SRK’s kitty. On most previous occasions it has been the other way round. Aamir Khan’s biggest game changer has been Lagaan, but few know that the film was first rejected by Shah Rukh. While he suggested Aamir Khan’s name to essay the role, Ashutosh Gowarikar had a tough time finding a producer for the film. However, Mr Perfectionist then decided to produce it himself and the film went on to become a massive blockbuster and became the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
Six years after Lagaan, SRK once again repeated the mistake by refusing to be a part of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s cult film Rang De Basanti. Aamir Khan immediately grabbed the opportunity and the film went on to be nominated at the BAFTA Awards, Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category along with winning the Filmfare Award. As a result, Aamir’s cabinet was enriched with a couple more Best Actor awards.
3 Idiots was the third film after Lagaan and Rang De Basanti that proved to be a lucky charm for Aamir instead of Shah Rukh. Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s first choice for Ranchordas Shamaldas Chanchad was the Baadshah, but King Khan had to back out due to date issues. 3 Idiots went on to become the biggest Bollywood grosser of the time.
With SRK’s recent track record in the dumps, fans are looking forward to Salute and hoping the film will turn his fortunes,
