2018 has been a great year for Bollywood. The Hindi film industry found some great stories, super comebacks, wonderful performances, surprises at the box office and of course young talent to bank on in the coming days. In fact, we saw some star kids, television biggies and absolute newcomers enter the film fraternity. Some managed to have blockbusters in their kitty with their debut, while others wowed the audience and filmi crowd with their performances. We list below the most talked about debutantes of 2018 and you tell us who impressed you the most…
Sara Ali Khan: The Simmba actress is gearing up for her second movie this year, a feat that none of her contemporaries or competition has managed. Just a few days ago, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter marked her debut with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath. The movie wasn’t a blockbuster, but with promising box office number and the actress’ laud worthy performances, trade is excited about the actress and are certain that Sara will scale heights in Bollywood real fast just like Alia Bhatt did. And if some weren’t impressed with Sara’s debut box office figures, then prediction is that her second film will mint more money than any of her father’s movie till date and is expected to hit at least Rs 200 crore.
Janhvi Kapoor: Sridevi’s daughter, Janhvi Kapoor’s debut in Karan Johar’s Dhadak was one of the most talked about films of 2018. All eyes were on Janhvi, who was being chased and tracked by the paparazzi as she visited gyms, cafes and stepped out for events. Unfortunately for the young actress, while this year was special, it also was one of the toughest times in her life. Janhvi lost her mother months before her film released and Sridevi could never watch her daughter on screen. However, Dhadak did fantastic business. The film was a remake of Marathi blockbuster Sairat. Janhvi and Ishaan Khatter became the new couple in town. And Dhadak broke Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra’s first film, Student Of The Year’s first day collection box office record too. And yes, Janhvi’s upcoming movies list too looks awesome – she has Karan Johar’s Takht in her kitty and will also be seen in Gunjan Saxena biopic opposite Dulquer Salmaan. Rumours also suggested that the actress will be seen opposite Varun Dhawan in Shiddat.
Mouni Roy: A well-known face on small screen and one of the biggest television stars in India, Mouni marked her debut opposite Akshay Kumar in Gold. Her Bengali wife act was appreciated by the critics. The actress definitely had not just a great launch pad, but also a promising line-up. Mouni bagged back-to-back movies post Gold. She will be seen doing a special song for Farhan Akhtar backed KGF. The actress also was roped in for Dharma Productions Brahmastra that stars real life lovers Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. Apart from that, the actress has Mogul, John Abraham starrer RAW – Romeo Akbar Walter and Made in China with Rajkummar Rao.
Warina Hussain: Like Katrina Kaif, Warina Hussain was lucky to be launched by Salman Khan. The actress was alongside the Bharat actor’s brother-in-law, Aayush Sharma in Loveratri. The pretty actress’ movie failed to make much of an impression. And there’s no official announcement about her next. However, the songs from Loveratri were heard at parties and festivals.
Banita Sandhu: A film that got the critics excited this year was Shoojit Sircar’s October. Varun Dhawan as an actor was daring to explore different kind of subjects. But one cannot ignore the fact that Banita Sandhu too opted for an unusual launch. And even though October was her first Hindi movie, the Welsh actress has been in the movie business since she was 11-years-old. Banita hopes to collaborate with Aamir Khan, Irrfan Khan and Alia Bhatt soon and we hope that she does find interesting opportunities.
Going by the Twitter poll we carried, Sara Ali Khan seems to be the clear winner.
