Sharaabi: Abhishek Kapoor and Bhushan Kumar team up for comedy drama
Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor’s last outing Kedarnath, which launched the Bollywood career of Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan, had a healthy run at the box office. The director is now all set to make a comic drama as his next and it will be based on the life of a dysfunctional alcoholic. Tilted Sharaabi, the film will mark the first collaboration of Pragya Kapoor’s (Abhishek’s spouse) Guy in the Sky Pictures and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. While details of the film are kept under wraps, we hear that the casting is underway and the pre-production work is on in full swing.
Confirming the news, Bhushan said in a statement, “Over the years, Abhishek Kapoor has come to be synonymous with strong content and well-crafted films all of which have spelt success at the box office. T-Series looks forward to backing his vision and presenting audiences with a wholesome entertainer”. Talking about the cast announcement, Pragya stated, “We are currently in talks for the casting but it’s too soon to talk about it. A formal announcement will be made soon and it's definitely going be special cause it’s a titular role."
The 1984 version of the film of the same name featured the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan as the lead. Helmed by Prakash Mehra, it was based on the story of a spoilt but kind-hearted son of a rich and uncaring father who heads down the path of alcoholism and depression.
