Thackeray: Nawazuddin Siddiqui opens up on playing the late Shiv Sena leader

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has essayed a range of characters, is now set to play Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray in his upcoming release titled Thackeray. The film revolves around Thackeray's life, political beliefs as well as the formation of Shiv Sena. From the time we heard Nawaz has signed the film, we wondered how much he related to the late leader's philosophies and outlook towards other religions. But Nawaz says opinions regarding religious difference is barely a barrier when an actor is just doing his job.

"I was born as a Muslim but I had no contribution to it. I could be born in a different family of a different religion as well. We only decide our thoughts. Our identity depends on how we educate ourselves and the experiences we live. We don't decide where we will be born.  Resting inside your mother's womb, you can't wonder, 'okay, let me be born in Switzerland'. What matters is how mature and developed your thoughts are and how your friends, your country, people from your surrounding are benefitting from it. That's your identity. My identity is that of an actor and I have the right to play all kinds of roles," he told during a conversation.

From the posters and trailer of the film, it is evident that the actor has slipped into Thackeray's shoes with ease. Thackeray, who was also an eminent and efficient cartoonist before his political career began, lived an eventful life which is expected to come alive in the film.
