2017’s highly acclaimed film Hindi Medium starring Irrfan Khan is all set to get a sequel. T-Series head Bhushan Kumar and Dinesh Vijan, founder of Maddock Films have signed a multiple-movie deal, and includes a sequel to Hindi Medium.
First in line will be Arjun Patiala which stars Diljit Dosanjh as a cop opposite Kriti Sanon who will essay the role of a journalist. This buddy cop film will also feature Varun Sharma. In a press release Bhushan Kumar stated, “Working on Hindi Medium together was a fruitful association. This has enabled us to want to work more and more together. Arjun Patiala is a film that will make you smile, laugh and crack up.”
Hindi Medium takes on the education system in India emphasizing on English language learning. The producers will soon officially announce the sequel and put the rumours to rest. Bhushan Kumar said confirming the news, “The script is ready and we are starting pre-production of the film. Hindi Medium was my first award as a producer. People loved the film and Irrfan is also ready. We will be going on the floors once the preparatory work is complete.” According to report, the story will be flash-forwarded with Pia in her teens but will revolve around the same theme of the education system.
The first installment is directed by Saket Chaudhary, known for films including Pyaar Ke Side Effects and Shaadi Ke Side Effects. It isn't, however, confirmed if he will direct the second edition as well. Hindi Medium took home the 2018 Filmfare for Best Actor and Best Film. The film features Pakistani actress Saba Qamar who was also nominated in the Best Actress category for Filmfare. But, according to Deccan Chronicle, sources say that it is unlikely that she’ll be roped in for the sequel.
