Veteran filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj took to Twitter on Monday, 19th March to announce that his upcoming film starring Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan has been postponed. The director also mentioned after consulting Deepika and producer Prernaa Arora of KriArj entertainment it has been decided that the film will be put on hold until Irrfan has recovered and returned home. Actor Irrfan Khan has been diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Tumour which is a rare disease. The actor has been flown out of the country for treatment.
Last month Vishal had said that his film would be rescheduled since both his lead actors were unwell. At that point, Irrfan was unaware of his condition. Vishal had said that Deepika’s back problem which had developed during the shoot of Padmaavat had resurfaced forcing her to postpone her shooting. The doctors had advised her to avoid strenuous activities for a few months and her role in this film is physically demanding.
‘In the past few weeks, I felt like I was back in the days of Maqbool while prepping with them. Deepika and Irrfan’s look tests have come out exceptionally well, nothing like you’ve seen before, and it took me a moment to recognize them when I saw the test photographs,’ Vishal had said.
The filmmaker went on to add that the film is still untitled and is not based on the life of Sapna Didi. He agreed that the film is a “takeoff from the story Femme Fatale from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.” He also mentioned that the story and screenplay have taken up a new identity and therefore it cannot be called a biopic.
