The four key members of SS Rajamouli’s upcoming biggie RRR – the director himself along with Ram Charan, NTR and producer DVV Danayya met the media in Hyderabad on Thursday morning to reveal many exciting updates about the film. But the most interesting of them all came through the release date, which has been fixed for the 30th of July, 2020. Being the big Eid weekend which is a celebrated one up north, Bollywood too has already announced that two of its most awaited films in Akshay Kumar – Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi and Ranbir Kapoor’s period drama Shamshera will be coming for the same weekend.
This sets up an epic clash at the box office, with a lot of deciding factors being pulled into the frame. Rajamouli’s film can be no sort of an understatement, with the towering records that the Baahubali franchise had put into place. As Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt came on board, the project just got a lot bigger, with the Hindi release of the film being something that is a tough contender for the box office now. With a pan-Indian release in ten languages, RRR will definitely take up a majority of the screens in the southern side of the country, eating up into the allotment that is usually given away to Hindi biggies. This also sets up a lot of smashing contests. And SS Rajamouli's RRR will also be up against YRF's Shamshera. Real life lovebirds in Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt will be competing against each other at the box office with Shamshera taking on RRR. . Intriguingly so, Ajay Devgn will be pit against himself when RRR stands up against Sooryavanshi, as the actor is set to have special guest appearances in both these films.
All said and done, a huge box office storm is on its way for Eid 2020. It will be interesting to see if any of these films back out of the race in order to facilitate better business, or just don’t mind the clash and go ahead with the said dates.
