Earlier in January this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced the list of recipients of the significant Padma Awards for the year 2019. On Monday, the president of India, Ram Nath Kovind gave away the Padma awards to the winners from various fields including art, sports, civil service, public affairs, social work, agriculture, and medicine. While 56 out of the 112 recipients received their honours from the President at Delhi's Rashtrapati Bhavan, the remaining recipients will get their awards in next event set to take place in coming days.
In the field of entertainment, southern superstar Mohanlal was given Padma Bhushan for his contribution, whereas Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee, late Kader Khan, ace choreographer and filmmaker Prabhu Deva, veteran singer and music director Shankar Mahadevan received Padma Shri for their valuable contribution. We reached out to veteran singer-music director Anu Malik, who has worked with Shankar Mahadevan on numerous projects and he was extremely happy on Shankar’s achievement. He also praised Manoj and Pabhu Deva for their work and the Padma award.
“It is a fabulous achievement by Shankar Mahadevan to get the Padma Shri. I have just met Prabhu Deva ji once or twice but I have always seen his work and worked with him, fabulous human being and a tremendous actor. Shankar Mahadevan I believe is so multi-talented, this was an award which was very much deserving, not only for me but for the industry and all the music lovers because the amount of hard work he has done as a singer, music composer it defies logic. So it’s an honour that he has got Padma Shri, in fact all three well deserve it,” he said praising the three Padma winners.

Anu Malik and Shankar Mahadevan go long back as the two collaborated for the first time in 1995 for Suraksha where Malik was the music director whereas Shankar was one of the playback singers. “When you talk about Prabhu Deva, Manoj Bajpayee and Shankar Mahadevan they have a lot of potentials. In my words, a potential is not the end point, but a capacity to grow and learn and all three have it in them especially Shankar. I have seen Shankar the way he has grown and today for him to get a Padma Shri, is huge achievement. Personally, it is a very satisfying achievement for me very well deserved as he started his career singing for my films.”
