40 CRPF personnel lost their lives on Thursday when a bus carrying the soldiers was attacked by an explosive-laden car in Jammu Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Considered as one of the deadliest terror attack the country has ever seen, people from all walks of life are condemning the act. Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar too took to Twitter to inform that he and his wife, Shabana Azmi, have called off their Karachi visit.
The couple’s move was lauded by people on the social media but Manikarnika star Kangana Ranaut slammed the duo calling them antinationals. Now Shabana Azmi has responded to Kangana’s statement and has slammed her for making a personal attack at this moment.
On Friday in an interview, Kangana called Javed and Shabana antinationals and also stated that there is no need for them to attend an event in Karachi when all ties with the neighboring country have been cut off post the Uri attack that took place couple of years ago. “People like Shabana Azmi calling for a halt on cultural exchange, they are the ones who promote Bharat tere Tukade honge gangs.... why did they organise an event in Karachi in the first place when Pakistani artists have been banned after Uri attacks and now they are trying to save face. The film industry is full of such anti-nationals who boost the enemy’s morals in many ways but right now is the time to focus on decisive actions... Pakistan ban is not the focus, Pakistan destruction is,” Kangana said.
We reached out to the veteran actor for her response on Kangana’s statement and this is what Shabana Azmi had to say, “You really think at a time like this a personal attack on me can be of any significance when the entire country stands as one in our grief and in condemning this dastardly Pulwama attack ? May God bless her. Shabana Azmi.”
Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi were invited to appear at the Karachi Art Council for a programme to celebrate Shabana’s father poet Kaifi Azmi's work.
