The multitalented and multifaceted STR aka Silambarasan aka Simbu turns 36 today, the 3rd of February. Pictures and videos from his birthday party are doing the rounds on social media. Dhanush, Jayam Ravi and Megha Akash among others were spotted at the party; it’s particularly nice to see the so-called rival (Dhanush) at STR’s celebration party.
Over the years, STR has been a part of quite a few successful, memorable films. Though the consensus is that he can do a lot more for cinema with his immense potential, let’s focus on the positives today and look back at STR’s hits in this birthday special feature.
Manmadhan in 2004 was STR’s breakthrough hit as a hero. He was also in charge of the story and screenplay in this youthful romance entertainer which scored high on glamour and wooed the young audience in a big way. Yuvan’s songs were also a big factor in the film’s popularity till date. In that phase, some of the other STR films in which he scored brownie points were Kovil (2004), Thotti Jeya (2005) and Vallavan (2006). Silambattam (2008) was also a fairly successful film in the commercial mass masala space.
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (2010) was like a second wind for STR. He got a classy new makeover in this upmarket Gautham Menon love story in which he was paired with the very pretty Trisha. AR Rahman delivered his very best for VTV and the film stands tall as an all-time favourite. STR also impressed as an actor in Vaanam (2011), an experimental drama which was also moderately successful.
Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada (2016) was a hit for the star after a really long time, following a rough phase. It was gift wrapped for him from the VTV duo of Gautham and Rahman. The songs were the main reason for the film’s run. STR also made his strong mark in the multistarrer blockbuster Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018). The masses gave him and Vijay Sethupathi the best response.
We hope STR channels his energy and time more towards cinema, and delivers many more worthy films in the coming years. Maanaadu with Venkat Prabhu promises a lot, to start with. We wish him the best!
