We are now one month away from the release of Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League. Which also means a resurrection of the DC vs Marvel war. Ragnarok: The 17th movie from the Marvel cinematic universe opens on November 3 while Justice League: The 5th movie from DC extended Universe, opens on November 17 this year.
In the span of nine months, we have seen three superhero movies, two from MCU and one from DCEU. This year’s first release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 from Marvel showed that a lesser known character can be a ringleader of the box-office without Iron Man with an $800m collection worldwide. That’s 1-0 to Marvel. And just when one thought that there were no more worlds to conquer, DC came out with Wonder Woman. She climbed higher than the Guardians with a Gal Gadot fronted effort. Hitting $821m mark at the box-office worldwide, the Amazon princes showed that DC was on its way back and that Marvel had to come up with something else to beat the Wonder Woman’s world domination. Score Marvel 1 – DC 1.
The momentum changed again when the marvelous Spiderman: Homecoming released. The Tom Holland starrer was far removed from the usual fare and was made as a High School film instead. It was an immediate hit with the millennial and the rest of the Spiderman loving community as well. Its lifetime collection: $878 million. Marvel 2 – DC 1.
How 2017 ends for the two Superhero spewing machines now completely depends on the month of November. Justice League or Thor? The suspense is killing us.
