Princess Mia fans, rejoice! Anne Hathaway just dropped news that will take you down the memory lane and shall bring in all the excitement, of course. It all happened during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the actress confirmed the news of a sequel to popular The Princess Dairies (2001) and The Princess Diaries 2 (2004). Well, that’s not it! She further revealed that Dame Julie Andrews, who played Clarisse Renaldi, Mia Thermopolis’s grandmother and the queen of Genovia, in the first two movies, has also been roped in for the sequel.
Anne said, "I want to do it. Julie (Andrews) wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It's just we don't want to unless it's perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it.” She further added, “It's as important to us as it is to you, and we don't want to deliver anything until it is ready, but we're working on it." Julie Andrews in an interview with BuzzFeed revealed that she would love to reprise her role as Queen Clarisse Renaldi, “There’s talk about it. Anne's very keen to do it. I would very willingly and happily do it. Anne had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to.”
The Princess Dairies revolved around Mia, who discovers she is the sole successor to the throne of Genovia, followed by the hilarious situations that take place after that realisation. In the second instalment titled The Princess Dairies 2: Royal Engagement, Mia finds out that she can become the queen only if she gets married. We wonder if the third part will give Princess Mia her much-deserved happy ending. Only time will tell!
