American artist Beyoncé and her rapper husband Jay Z were honoured with the Best International Group award at the 2019 BRIT Awards. However, the couple didn’t attend the ceremony at the O2 in London, they rather acknowledged it via a special video message. But what was special about the video was that it featured a portrait of the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle in the background. The power couple paid homage to Meghan Markle but there was not a single mention for the Queen of England – Elizabeth II.
In their acceptance speech, Jay Z and Beyoncé recreated the music of their video Apeshit, the only difference being it was a beautiful portrait of Meghan Markle instead of Mona Lisa’s. “Thank you so much to the BRIT Awards for this incredible honour. You guys have always been so supportive, everything is love. Thank you,” said the couple and turned their backs to the camera and looked directly at the Meghan Markle portrait. Turns out, the tribute was paid in honour of Black History Month since Meghan Markle, created history by becoming the first bi-racial person to marry into the royal family of England. The couple also congratulated Meghan on her pregnancy and addressed her as ‘Melanated Monas.’
