Disney has cancelled the red carpet film premiere of Descendants 3 following the death of star Cameron Boyce. The 20-year-old actor died in his sleep following a seizure last Saturday, brought on by an existing medical condition. The red carpet event in Los Angeles later this month has been called off as a mark of respect for one of the TV movie's main stars.
In a statement released by Disney, they shared, "We’re proud to be part of Cameron Boyce’s legacy by showcasing his talents on screen but we are cancelling the red carpet premiere event for Descendants 3 scheduled for July 22 and instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organisation to which Cameron was deeply committed." Cameron also starred in Disney Channel sitcom Jessie and played the teenage son of Cruella de Vil in the Descendants films, which tell the story of the children of Disney villains.
A post-mortem was carried out on Monday and a coroner in Los Angeles said further tests need to be carried out before an official cause of death is announced. Among the heartbreaking tributes to the young actor was his father Victor Boyce, who wrote about Cameron alongside his last ever photo, "My son. Just hours before he was snatched from our lives. I miss him terribly. I hope that no one ever has to feel the agony I’m feeling but no one is immune to tragedy. The outpouring of love and support our family continues to receive is so beautiful and appreciated. Thank you all for helping us through our worst possible situation."
