Ghostbusters 3 gets a release date, finally. Director Jason Reitman revealed that the third installation of the franchise will release in July 2020. The series began in 1984 and despite having a budget of $30 million only, managed to gross $300 million. Five years later, the sequel for the same film grossed only $200 million. Since then, part three was nowhere to be seen, until Sony resurrected it in 2016 with an all-female cast.
According to reports, Sony announced that the franchise will continue with the new film being a sequel to the original series. According to Screen Rant, the third film was secretly in development by Jason Reitman. Reportedly, he has already shot a short teaser trailer. Deadline reported that Ghostbusters 3 releases on July 10, 2020. As of now, there are no films releasing on that weekend.
Reitman is very secretive about the storyline of Ghostbusters 3. "This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present," he was quoted as saying by Digital Spy. "We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet."
Meanwhile, a report on HN Entertainment claimed that the 12-year-old Sarah Abbott (Black Mirror) is among the ones auditioning for Ghostbusters 3. Other reports mentioned that the film will be codenamed Rust City and will revolve around four teenagers.
