The world’s most famous spy has been played by several actors but there was one actor who voluntarily let go of the role. Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman come close to saying, “Bond, James Bond” but he opted out as he thought being involved in two simultaneous roles, Wolvernine and Bond would make things hectic for him. For this superhero actor, character Bond lost the deal.
“I was about to do X-Men 2 and a call came from my agent asking if I’d be interested in Bond. I just felt at the time that the scripts had become so unbelievable and crazy, and I felt like they needed to become grittier and real. And the response was: ‘Oh, you don’t get a say. You just have to sign on.’ I was also worried that between Bond and ‘X-Men,’ I’d never have time to do different things,” the actor told Variety.
Daniel Craig’s announcement as the new Bond following Pierce Brosnan’s Bond era end, was met with speculations over a blonde Bond. Had Jackman accepted the role, an Aussie’s portrayal of the Queen’s favourite agent would have taken in a different stride by Bond fans altogether.
Despite Jackman’s speculations of the script turning unrealistic, the Bond franchise did go on to get touched by reality’s wand with Casino Royale. In the meantime, Craig will hang his 007 gun as he announced his retirement as Bond when his last film hits the screens in 2019.Jackman, he will be playing PT Barnum in his next flick, The Greatest Showman which is set to hit theaters on December 20.
