James Gunn to direct the relaunch of Suicide Squad?

DC’s Suicide Squad released in 2016 and ended up being a total mess. The film did manage to make good money but failed to impress the critics and audiences alike. Now, the follow-up to the Warner Bros. production is currently in talks with the controversial James Gunn who, reportedly, will don the director’s hat for the film. As per the latest development, the film is not a direct sequel but is rather termed as a relaunch of the original film.

“Sources say that Gunn’s focus is to take the franchise in a new direction with a mostly all-new cast of characters and actors. Sources also say that the project is also very much rooted in Gunn’s vibe, as seen in the Guardians movies,” states The Hollywood Reporter. Disney had fired Gunn from his Marvel franchise after a series of his social media posts were termed as ‘insensitive’ and sparked a big controversy. Three months after tha, Warner Bros. roped in the filmmaker to helm the 'new' version of The Suicide Squad.

Coming to the original version, the film featured characters like Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, and the Joker, which the new version will reportedly have as well. The film shows us how the characters ‘are forced into the service of the government in exchange for lighter prison sentences.’ Let's see how the new one fares!
