John Travolta’s gangster movie dumped at the last minute
John Travolta’s new movie, Gotti, got junked just 10 days before its scheduled release date. Lionsgate gave no explanation for dropping the John Gotti biopic at the last moment. According to reports, Lionsgate sold the film back to its production company. The producers are now expected to look for new distributors for the film and by the looks of it, the planned release date of December 15 seems impossible.
Gotti was directed by Entourage actor and Pussy Posse member Kevin Connolly. It covered the life of the infamous Gambino crime family’s boss and featured Travolta’s real-life wife Kelly Preston as John Gotti’s wife.
It’s pretty unusual for a major studio to take down a movie so close to release. According to reports, the studio has cut all ties with the project. Since production began in July 2016, the film has been beset by delays and problems.
Travolta, 63, plays the role of Gotti at various stages of his life, including when he went to prison in 1992. Gotti died while still in jail in 2002.
The film’s pulling down is a new problem for a heavyweight like Travolta, who was accused of sexual harassment in the fallout from the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
According to a police report obtained by RadarOnline, the Pulp Fiction star, was accused of groping a male masseur, on his “bare buttocks, exposing himself, and making lewd suggestions.”
