Legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld passes away at 85
Superstar fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld took his last breath on Tuesday, at the age of 85.
Star fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, on Tuesday, passed away at the age of 85 after days of not keeping well. He was the creative director of Chanel and Fendi and was celebrated as one of the most dynamic designers who worked until his very last days. Under his vision (he took over the brand in 1983), Chanel underwent a transformation like never before. Lagerfeld was deeply admired even by his competitors and rival brand Louis Vitton has mourned the loss.
"We have lost a creative genius who helped to make Paris the fashion capital of the world, and Fendi one of the most innovative Italian houses. We owe him a great deal: his taste and talent were the most exceptional I have ever known," said a statement from Bernard Arnault, the chairman and CEO of LVMH.
"We are deeply saddened to learn the news of Karl Lagerfeld's passing today. His unrivalled contribution to the fashion industry changed the way women dress and perceive fashion. He inspired generations of young designers and will continue to do so," BBC quoted Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council.

Apart from brainstorming collections for his own brand, Lagerfeld created remarkable stuff for high street fashion brand H&M. His first stint with fashion dates back to 1950s when he started working under Pierre Balmain and later switched to House of Patou. Way before he took over as Fendi's creative director, he was hired as a consultant director in 1967.
Across the globe, celebrities have been mourning the loss of the legend.
