From comics to video games, Wolverine can be enjoyed on every platform and now he gets his own podcasts. According to Mashable, the X-Men character immortalized by Hugh Jackman, will have its own scripted podcast called Wolverine: The Long Night. The 10-episode story will debut as an exclusive on Stitcher Premium, a podcast network, in Spring 2018. This is a result of a partnership between Marvel and Stitcher. The podcast will roll out to other platforms in the fall.
“Podcasting is an incredible, intimate medium that's perfect for telling stories, and I can’t think of a better partner with whom to push the boundaries of scripted podcasts than Marvel,” said Erik Diehn, CEO of Midroll Media, the parent company of Stitcher, in a statement.
Richard Armitage, the Hobbit and Hannibal star will be voicing Logan for the podcast. According to Mashable, writer Ben Percy will be mixing the enigmatic aspects of crime podcasts like Serial and S-Town with the ‘narrative tricks of True Detective — plus a dash of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven.’
The story includes two agents, Sally Pierce (Celia Keenan-Bolger) and Tad Marshall (Ato Essandoh), who arrive at Burns, a fictional town in Alaska. The plan is to investigate a series of murders. They join up with Bobby Reid (Andrew Keenan-Bolger) to investigate the main suspect, Logan (Armitage).
Dan Silver, VP, head of platforms & content for Marvel New Media said that they are a bit cautious about predicting a ‘Marvel Podcast Universe’ as of now but he told Mashable that if the Long Night becomes successful, “That would be incredibly exciting…”
