Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund, won the title of Miss America 2018. She is the first from her "lesser represented" state to have won the title.23-year-old Mund, beat 50 other contestants to claim the title, succeeding the outgoing Miss America, Savvy Shields, who was the former Miss Arkansas.
Before claiming the crown, Cara Mund expressed her views in an onstage interview, on the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris climate accord.
She said that Trump, a Republican, was wrong to withdraw the U.S. from the climate accord aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming.
“It’s a bad decision, There is evidence that climate change is existing and we need to be at that table,” she said.
The Brown University graduate after winning the crown, stood her ground while meeting the press and said, “He is our president and we need to support him, I may not agree with all of his opinions, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to support the president.”
But she was not the only contestant whose question featured Trump. The first runner-up Miss Missouri, Jennifer Davis was also asked if Trump's presidential campaign collided with Russia last year, to which she replied, "We should investigate it to its fullest extent, and if we do find evidence, the justice system should do their due diligence," She danced to some Bollywood tunes during the talent round of the pageant.
Miss New Jersey Kaitlyn Schoeffel was the second runner-up followed by Miss District of Colombia Briana Kinsey and Miss Texas Morgana Wood.
