With less than a month to go for the launch of Mute on Netflix, the first trailer of the sci-fi flick is officially out. The film is set in the future, roughly 40 years from now and narrates the story of a mute bartender who is in search of his girlfriend.
Directed by Duncan Jones, the film stars SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Alexander Skarsgard as the bartender Leo Beiler and is set in Berlin, Germany. During his journey to find his lost love, Alexander encounters Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux as US Army surgeons, who have seemingly questionable agendas.
A lot is similar to what Jones did in his previous film Moon though the film features a partially recognisable future with not many upgrades as one would think to have in the future. The film has taken influences from big movies such as the Blade Runner and the Dark Knight, but what makes it special is the addition of humour which blends perfectly with the action scenes.
Notably, Duncan Jones, who has earlier directed award winners such as Moon, Source Code, and Warcraft, wrote the script with Sherlock writer Michael Robert Johnson. The co-actor Paul Rudd interestingly also features in Marvel’s latest release – Ant Man and the Wasp.
According to Jones, he wrote the script for the film long before he wrote his award-winning Moon but could not continue with the production due to back to back movie commitments. Now that it is finally hitting the screens, fans are surely excited. The film is all set for a digital release on February 23
