Royal Mail reveals stamp collection for Marvel’s SpiderMan, Iron Man, Thor and others
Marvel’s superheroes originated from comics. Gradually they moved on to cartoons and later movies. But now these characters have found a new home and that is none other than the Royal Mail – the UK’s postal service. A number of Marvel’s superheroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain Marvel and the Hulk will be adapted to miniature postal stamps to mark the 80th anniversary of Marvel Comics, reports said. The Royal Mail cleared for a stamp set of 15 characters which contain illustrations of some of Marvel’s most popular characters.
The stamp set also includes Captain Britain and Union Jack – characters introduced in Britain in the 1980s. According to Daily Mail, the stamps are illustrated by Alan Davis, an artist working with Marvel since 1981. The stamp collection will also include an exclusive comic strip for the UK as well, where the superheroes are shown battling Thanos. The strip is titled Avengers UK. Davis had created Captain Britain, a Marvel hero meant for the UK.
Davis was quoted by Manchester Evening News as saying: "I really can't take all the credit for producing these stamps. The speed of production required in US comics makes it necessary to separate the creative disciplines into four individual jobs. Writer, penciler, inker and colourist. My primary focus is writing and pencilling.”
Collectables such as a limited edition Marvel stamp book will also be made available. The merchandise will go on sale from March 14. Some of the stuff will be available later on April 26.
