Selena Gomez is known for ruling the social networking site Instagram with her 130million followers. But looks like she is taking a break. Fans noticed on early Tuesday morning that the actor and Wolves singer’s page wasn’t public anymore. That’s no small matter for a celebrity who commands the attention of millions of followers. Notably, Gomez was the first person to reach 100 million followers on the platform in 2016. And this year, her post was one of the top 5 most liked posts on Instagram. With her most popular post of 2017, she announced she had undergone kidney transplant surgery as a result of lupus, making headlines worldwide.
As Selena shuts her doors, it is speculated that she is upset over being misinterpreted in the Billboard interview. The last time we saw her on Instagram was when she posted a cryptic Instagram story which seemed to be directed at Billboard magazine. She wrote in the story, 'Never will I let another human being guess my words ever again. Or invite them in my home.' Soon after this she went private. Her message continued: 'That is so hurtful. The most "ridiculous" part of that is no one knowing my heart when I say things.' Reportedly the magazine made her look ungrateful.
But for her loyal fans, there is a good news. While Selena has shut the door on new followers and those just browsing, her page is still available to the 130million people who follow the star. She is one of the most popular celebrities on the platform. There’s no way of knowing if or when she’ll change her settings from private back to public or the reason behind the switch. But one thing is clear. She takes social media’s impact seriously.
