We always knew Thor: Ragnarok will be a huge hit. Even before the first teaser came out, Marvel fans were looking forward to the release. Well the God of Thunder hit the box office with a bang and bagged an overall sale of $28 million on the first day. Thor: Ragnarok is the 17th and best-reviewed movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It carries a 94% ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the seventh Marvel movie to hit 90%.
Just like Ragnarok, the movie seemed like the end of all things when it came to boxing office collection. The movie opened at a spectacular Rs 9.91 Cr gross box office collection (including Rs 13 Lakh from the only 10 IMAX shows held on Thursday evening). Net box office collection stands at Rs 7.73 cr with 45% of the contribution coming from the dubbed audience.
The movie has been ranked as the 2nd highest opening for any Hollywood and 3X its prequel Thor: The Dark World. It is also the biggest non-holiday Friday collection this year for any Hollywood movie.
In Asia, Taiwan saw the biggest industry opening day ever for an October release and Indonesia hammered out the 6th biggest industry all-time opening day. The top opening markets so far for the Chris Hemsworth-starrer are, the UK ($4.8M), Korea ($2.3M), France ($1.9M), Taiwan ($1.2M) and Indonesia ($900K).
In India, the movie released with Abhay Chopra’s Ittefaq and it is no secret who leads the box office. While praises and money flowed towards the Thor: Ragnarok auditorium, its competition isn’t close to being this lucky.
