Sylvester Stallone will direct ‘Creed 2’, the eighth installment in the Rocky franchise and the sequel to the 2015 Rocky spin-off ‘Creed’. The actor who has been a big driving force in the most prominent Hollywood action film, took to Instagram to make the announcement.
The movie is going to mark Stallone’s return to the directorial fold after a gap of 7 years. The 2010 release, ‘The Expendables’, was his last movie as the director. The actor has certainly got enough directorial experience on his CV with eight releases. He has also written all six Rocky films before ‘Creed’. This is the only franchise that has earned him a nomination in the Oscars twice. Previously, Stallone was nominated in 1977 for the Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor categories for playing Rocky Balboa, a role that helped him become an international action star. With ‘Creed’, Stallone got himself his third Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category.
Stallone acted and produced ‘Creed’ when it hit the theaters in 2015. The film starred Michael B Jordan as Adonis Johnson Creed, Apollo Creed's son, with Sylvester Stallone playing the role of Rocky Balboa and was directed by Ryan Coogler. Made on a budget of $40 million, it raked more than $170 million at the global market.
Now as the sequel is announced, both the actors are back to reappear in their role along with Stallone donning multiple hats for the film. He is producing, writing, acting as Rocky and this time, he’s even directing the film.Creed 2, will begin with shooting next year and what it has to offer to the fans will be kept a secret for now.
