The Matt Reeves-directed standalone Batman film, titled The Batman, is scheduled to hit theatres in the summer of 2021. The announcement was made by Warner Bros, but according to a report on Deadline, the role of the caped crusader will not be reprised by Ben Affleck, but a different actor. Affleck was last seen as Batman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League. According to the report, the decision was taken after Justice League failed at the box office.
Affleck confirmed via a tweet, linking to a story that said that he would not return to the role of Batman. He also mentioned that he is excited about Reeves’ idea of the new film. Word has it that the new film will feature a much younger Bruce Wayne. Affleck’s rendition of Batman was met with mixed reactions. While some liked the funny approach, many lamented that Batman is a character more suited to being dark.
Reports also added that the upcoming Suicide Squad film by Warner Bros is scheduled for a release in 2021. Suicide Squad includes a variety of supervillains including Joker and Harley Quinn, who are hired by a shady government agency to do its dirty work.
