When stardom strikes, very few want to leave it. The same may be the case with India’s famous wrestling sisters, Babita and Geeta Phogat. A year after the screen emulation of the Phogat sisters inspired us in Aamir Khan starrer, Dangal, the sisters are soon to make television appearances in their real self. Babita Phogat has confirmed that she will make her debut on television as a wrestler in &TV’s famous daily soap Badho Bahu.
Babita follows the footsteps of sister, Geeta Phogat who already got her television break recently fighting her fears, if she has any, on India’s version of Fear Factor, adventure reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi.
The soap Babita Phogat will be starring in is also based on the sport of wrestling where an overweight protagonist takes up wrestling against the odds in her world with a little support from her father-in-law, played by Pankaj Dheer. The soap starring Rytasha Rathore and Prince Narula as lead sees Rytasha try to carve a place for herself in her husband’s heart while trying to discover herself. Her first official wrestling match in the show will be against none other than wrestling champion, Babita.
“I am over the moon and I can’t wait to see Babita and Badho in the same akhada. It’s a dream come true when your inspiration stands in flesh and blood with your character. Babita inspired me to write the show and it’s the proudest moment for me. I will cherish it all my life. I would really like to thank Babita and the &TV team for making my dream a reality,” show producer Dipti Kalwani told Indian Express. While we try to imagine the resolution to the match where a real time international wrestler takes on an amateur wrestler on screen, Babita Phogat and the rest of the crew is happy to keep us guessing.
