It seems Amazonn Prime Video is on a comedy production streak. They have been roping in the best talents in India. Irrfan Khan is set to be the star for their next production, an Indian original series titled, ‘The Ministry’. The political satire will be streamed worldwide next year with Khan playing a washed up narcissistic Bollywood actor who is unwittingly appointed as a placeholder Union Culture Minister, read a statement.
The story is set in the political corridors of India and has been created by All India Bakchod’s founder, Gursimran Khamba. Khan has starred in many videos for AIB. Despite a crippling bureaucracy, political gaffes and a team of misfits, Khan’s character yearns to be loved by the masses once again.
“I am looking forward to this great collaboration with Amazon and AIB – both have content that makes me very excited to work with them," Khan said in an accompanying statement. "It will be a great experience to be working on this show which will be very topical and funny and will release globally on Amazon Prime Video.”
This will be Amazon Prime Video’s third production in India, following ‘The Edge’ starring Vivek Oberoi and Richa Chadha and ‘Lakhon Mein Ek’ from stand-up comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath.
The ‘Life of Pi’ star will be next seen in Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's ‘Doob: No Bed of Roses’ followed by ‘The Song of Scorpions’ which he helped co-produce and premiered at Locarno Film Festival back in August. As web series pick-up wind in India, Khan’s lead in one only justifies his talent and quality of web series for us.
