This is another podcast episode of Justalkin. Just like us applying to a new job, it helps to have connections in Bollywood. And some of these stars have a great relationship with friends both on and off screen. On this podcast, we’ll see who has managed to keep their friends the longest.
Kareena, Karisma, Malaika and Amrita - the girl gang!
Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor - both Divas, both bearing the torchlight for the females of the Kapoor clan - picked two other siblings to be their BFFs - Malaika Arora, and Amrita Arora. These four women give Sex and the City a run for their money - they hang out together, go on holidays together, and you’ll always read about their girls night out. They don’t stop themselves from posting pictures chilling together whether it’s in Mumbai or abroad. Like friendly reminders to you to catch up with your BFFs!
Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh
The Babas of Bollywood! Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor are related, but they seem to be much better friends. Ranveer Singh is always so high on energy! Arjun Kapoor by himself seems very calm and sorted, but put them both together on stage or in front of a camera and you get quite a show! They call each other Baba and it rubbed off on youngsters as well. It’s a pity they haven’t been cast in more movies together - so what if Gunday was a flop?
Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan
Just Raj and Simran who fell in love during DDLJ, Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar too discovered their love for each other while filming it - although theirs is much more platonic. They’ve been really good friends for a long time, and Shah Rukh Khan has been in some of Karan Johar’s biggest films - starting with DDLJ, where KJo played a cameo, to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - KJo’s directorial debut, Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham. They know how to line up people for tickets together. There are rumours about KJo launching Aryan Khan. Maybe we’ll see a remake of KKHH! Or a SOTY 3 - whatever catches KJo’s fancy.
Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukherji
Ranbir Kapoor is the misunderstood star kid, and Ayan Mukherji is the director with the famous cousins who has to prove. Together, they’ve made cult movies like Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. Must be a plus point if you’re making movies about friendship and coming of age. Ayan himself said he didn’t have a best friend till his early twenties, and that’s when he met Ranbir Kapoor. They’re working on a movie together again - it’s called Brahmastra, and it also has Alia Bhatt whom Ranbir is apparently dating. Must be great - acting with your girlfriend and being directed by your best friend!
Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Jimmy Kimmel
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are really popular best friends - they’ve been friends since they were kids! Now add talk show host Jimmy Kimmel into the mix, and you can see they hang out together on screen and at award shows and watch games together. Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel also have a funny feud - like the time they went to a dodgers game together, and wore T-shirts that said ‘I’m with stupid’ with arrows pointing at each other. The three of them also let you into some really fun behind the scenes antics everytime they’re together.
Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran
Taylor Swift - the sweet innocent country kid who made it as a big pop star, and Ed Sheeran - the Irish guy who makes everyone fall in love with his music form a cute friendship that make both their fans go ‘Awww’. Tongues always start wagging when many appearances are made together. But Ed Sheeran is in a relationship with his childhood sweetheart, and Taylor Swift dates a new guy every time she needs a new album! They write songs together, they sit next to each other during award shows, they party together, and if you watch videos of them together when they’re on stage, you can see just how that comfort they share makes their performance all the better! Here’s looking forward to more musical collaborations between them.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Toby McGuire
Leonardo DiCaprio is that infamous actor whom the academy awards always managed to evade till 2016. But at least he had a best friend to see him through the ups and downs - Toby McGuire. They met when they were 12 years old, and they’ve always looked out for each other ever since, sometimes beating each other to a big role. They were in the adaptation of The Great Gatsby, and it was huge advantage to have them acting together, because of their chemistry and comfort both on and off screen.
Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow
You can’t work together for years with someone and not be friends with them - especially if its a TV show called FRIENDS! When you see the girls hanging out together for brunches and attending each other’s weddings, it’s like the TV show never ended! They also recently said they have a text chain with the girl gang from FRIENDS. Courtney Cox said she wasn’t a very big fan of the medium, because sometimes you think of something so funny, and you send the message, and the others just don’t get it! I don’t know if we’ll see a reboot of the TV show anytime soon, because reboots always don’t work - remember what happened to Full House?
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
Who said women can’t be best friends? Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are both incredible because they broke into a space in entertainment which only men used to occupy before - they always thought making people laugh was a man’s job. But these two women together have broken barriers, and they’ve become best friends. Good for them, to work together, and good for us because we get to watch it! Their chemistry and comfort with each other really shows when they host events or TV episodes together. They actually met at an improv class a few years back, and have managed to stay friends since then.
Some of the biggest stars in entertainment have probably made it this far because of the support system they have, and best friends are always important - no matter which industry you work in! Till the next episode - this is Justalking brought to you by in.com and my name is Krithika.
