Kangana Ranaut has long worked in movies revolving around single characters like Queen and Simran but her fans are yet to see her essay a real life woman. While a biopic, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, is in the pipeline, she has been slow in signing such films unlike actresses like Priyanka Chopra (Mary Kom) and Sonam Kapoor (Neerja) who did so before her. She is about to add to her count with a biopic on mountaineer Arunima Sinha.
Kangana will be playing the first Indian woman amputee to scale Mount Everest. The actress's heavy schedule for Manikarnika left little window for Kangana to be the lead in the project but Arunima seemed definite that only Kangana could play the part. “The makers were to decide between Kriti Sanon and Kangana Ranaut. Since the latter’s schedule looked packed because she’s shooting for Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, they were skeptical. But, Arunima took the final call on the lead,” quoted a leading daily.
Arunima is a national level volleyball player who was pushed out of train by a group of thieves leading to loss of a limb. She has scaled six peaks across the globe, Everest in Asia, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Kosciuszko in Australia, Aconcagua in Argentina and Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya) in Indonesia.
The movie where Kangana will be playing the Padma Shri winner was supposed to be produced by Farhan Akhtar but the deal did not come through, “Farhan had come to meet me at my place here on May 18 and proposed to make a film on my life highlighting my struggle. I have accepted the offer. Farhan said he wanted to make the film on her so that people could know about my struggle and get motivated just like his movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ through which life of a great athlete was presented before the world,” Arunima told a leading daily.Kangana could very well be expected to be scaling a snow clad mountain and fighting robbers in a train in this upcoming biopic.
