The CS Amudhan-directed Tamizh Padam 2 (TP2), starring Shiva, Sathish, and Iswarya Menon, has emerged as the most profitable Tamil venture of the year 2018. Given the budget was low and the earnings high, the movie has had makers grinning from ear to ear.
The movie was made on a budget of Rs 10 crore, and that includes the promotions as well. While the production budget was Rs 7.7 crore, the print and publicity cost around Rs 2.3 crore. The theatrical collections and the producers' share are clear indicators of Tamizh Padam 2 being a through and through profitable venture, the highest amongst the 2018 Tamil ventures, so far.
After 11 days in the running, Tamizh Padam 2 has grossed close to Rs 26 crore in Tamil Nadu, which is more than double the cost at which it was made. Chennai city is the film's best performing zone, where the film has collected a gross of Rs 3.97 crore in 11 days.
Tamizh Padam 2 has already collected more than Kalakalappu 2 in TN and will eventually also cross the numbers that Vishal’s Irumbu Thirai and Jayam Ravi’s Tik Tik Tik earned in the state. It is a huge achievement for a non-star film and proves yet again that "Content is King".
Amudhan will mostly do his next film too with his TP2 producer Sashikanth. An official announcement is expected in this regard.
It must be noted that though Tamizh Padam 2 took the early lead over the other new release Kadaikutty Singam when the two released in the same weekend, the latter caught up steadily and now has a sizable lead at the TN box-office.
