Arvind Swamy has lately been in the headlines because of his hard-hitting views on a range of topics like demonetisation and fighting corruption. But now the Tamil superstar has turned his focus. As it so happens, the actor has confirmed that he will be turning director in 2018 adding another milestone to his cinematic journey. The actor has asked his fans to ‘expect the unexpected’. Arvind has been keeping himself quite busy these days. His current projects include Karthick Naren’s adventure-thriller ‘Naragasooran’ and Siddique comedy remake ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’. 'Naragasooran’ also stars Shriya Saran and ‘Bilingual Hero’ Sundeep Kishan. The film’s stunning teaser was released a few days ago and has raised our expectations to an all new level. On the other hand, ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’, which is a remake of Mammootty starrer ‘Bhaskar The Rascal’, stars Amala Paul in the lead. Bollywood star Aftab Shivdasani will be seen essaying a negative role here.
Arvind Swami has carved a niche for himself in Kollywood with his high-octane and suave performances over all these years. Since, his silver screen debut in 1991 with Mani Ratnam’s classic ‘Roja’, his personality and screen presence have positioned Arvind as one of the most talented and respected actors in the industry today. After delivering a heart touching performance in the critically acclaimed ‘Bombay’, his career took a bit of a hit and Arvind moved out of the limelight. However, he rewrote his career in 2015 as Dr Siddharth Abimanyu in ‘Thani Oruvan’ and Tamil Nadu got a new sensational on-screen antagonist.
In 2018, he will begin shooting for Mani Ratnam’s yet-untitled Tamil multi-starrer project. The film will also star Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu, Fahadh Faasil, Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh. The film with Mani Ratnam will be his sixth outing with the auteur with whom he has worked in memorable projects such as Roja and Bombay among others. Asked about reuniting with Ratnam, whom he considers his mentor, Arvind said, “I’m part of the project. Can’t say more as the boss doesn’t like it. Look forward to working with all as a team.”
Arvind also clarified that his focus at the moment is only on doing more Tamil films. When a fan asked when he will do Telugu films again, he said, “I will surely dub the movies that I have done in Telugu.”
