'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi's recent release Junga hasn't soared well, at least as per the expectations. Due to the mixed word-of-mouth, its box office performance has been average. In its first week, the film grossed close to Rs 14 CR in Tamil Nadu with Chennai city yielding Rs 2.49 CR. Junga is holding on to a fairly good screen count for its second week but the release of Pyaar Prema Kaadhal (Aug 9) and Vishwaroopam 2 (Aug 10) will make it tough for the film in the days to come. Trade pundits are predicting substantial losses!
Sethupathi is meanwhile excited about his production venture, Merku Thodarchi Malai (Western Ghats) directed by Lenin Bharathi with music by 'Maestro' Ilayaraja. On Saturday, the actor came out with an adorable little promo video saying that it's a film for the common people.
"I believe Merku Thodarchi Malai has come out well. I feel proud and content about producing such a good film. I thank Raja sir for accepting this film and blessing it with his score; the film would have 2 songs. Merku Thodarchi Malai would be a film with relatable faces and I think it'll reach out well to the people."
The film's theatrical release date will be announced soon. It has already had a productive run at some noteworthy film festivals across the globe.
