The year 2018 will be remembered for the biggest storm the country witnessed in the form of #MeToo movement, and rightly so. Taking cues from the west, the women in our country came forward and revealed names of the people who sexually exploited them. During the time the movement was at its peak, a majority of the country came together in support of the women affected by sexual predators. Even some prominent faces of society put their might behind the cause. Now, months later, actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has mocked the movement, boasting with pride that his name didn’t crop up among the list of predators.
On Wednesday, Shatrughan Sinha, along with his wife Poonam Sinha, was present at a book launch event and the former actor seems to have spoken a bit too much. While addressing the media, the 72-year-old Shatrughan brought up the #MeToo movement which made waves across the nation. Everyone expected the BJP politician to weigh in on the important matter with all seriousness, but instead, he made a joke of it. The former Rajya Sabha member boasted of feeling safe that his name didn’t crop up during the whole movement and was thankful that he listens to his wife. He also appealed to his former female co-stars to look at the situation and excuse him. Indeed a wasted opportunity for Shatrughan Sinha who could have, as a senior member of society, thrown his weight behind the crucial and timely movement.
