Manushi Chhillar adds another feather to her crown. The 2-week-old Miss World wins the award for the Special Achievements category In this year’s Indian of the Year award show by CNN-News18. A medical student from Haryana, Manushi won the Miss World title in China, after 16 years of drought for India at the international beauty pageant. She is now the sixth Indian to win the Miss World pageant after Priyanka Chopra brought the crown in 2000.
At the awards function in the capital, Chhillar was asked if mothers all over the world ever got their dues (a reference to her answer in Miss World’s final round) she replied "Motherhood anywhere in the world is a one-way relationship. For instance, no matter what I do, I know I cannot repay my mother for what she's done for me. So it's always going to be a one-way relationship."
As for whether she would continue with her MBBS education, or get 'waylaid by Bollywood', the ever smiling winner said, "I worked very hard for that seat, and I'm not letting go of that so easily. Not even for Bollywood.”
India captain Virat Kohli, who presented the award to Manushi, exchanged a few words with her as well: "It's my honour to give this award to you," Virat told Manushi. "Hope we can keep making the county proud in the future as well."
Earlier today, Manushi met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by her parents and her brother. The beauty queen was dressed in an ivory Anarkali with mixed elements of powder pink and beads in threadwork. She topped it with silver earrings to complete her look and had her hair pulled back in a bun.
