The trailer of Netflix's Delhi Crime (a seven-part anthology) has taken the internet by storm. The police-procedural drama recounts the Nirbhaya rape case, infamously known around the world as the 2012 Delhi Gang Rape, and has been written and directed by the award-winning Indo-Canadian filmmaker Richie Mehta. Delhi Crime stars Shefali Shah, Adil Hussain, Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Tailang. This series will be available on Netflix on March 22. After Soni, this would be Netflix's second show looking at the crime scene in the capital.
Delhi Crime is a fictionalised depiction of the 2012 investigation. It aims to capture the intricacy of the disturbing event and the scrutiny of the Nirbhaya rape. The series aims to also showcase the emotional toll it took on the investigating team, as well as the nation. Varthika Chaturvedi (Shefali Shah) is the police officer in charge of the investigation. The trailer starts with a police patrol finding an injured girl on the street. The case reaches Chaturvedi who claims that this is the first time she's seen such a 'heinous' crime. As her team begins to investigate, things become more twisted as a snowball effect takes places that now consumes the entire nation baying for blood. Rasika Dugal joins the team as an officer as pressure from the media mounts.
The series premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2019 and has been lauded and garnered stellar reviews from critics across the world. Produced by Golden Karavan and Ivanhoe Pictures, the first season of Delhi Crime premieres on Netflix on March 22, 2019.
