Rajkummar Rao found both box office and critical fame last year with releases like Bareilly Ki Barfi and Newton. Even got an Oscar calling with Newton being India’s official nomination at the prestigious award. In 2018, he will be back to his critical actor self with the deep dark character of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a British terrorist of Pakistani descent in Omerta.
Come April, India will see the star essay the infamous terrorist who, India was forced to release to the Taliban in 1999 in exchange of safe release of passengers of hijacked Indian Airlines Flight 814. Omar is also known for the kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. He was arrested and awarded death sentence by a special judge of anti-terrorism court in Pakistan in 2002. His execution however is yet to be done. The delay is being linked to his connections with intelligence service MI6.
Rao stepping into the shoes of this infamous terrorist is sure to reveal the actors innate ability to wear any skin on screen. Omerta directed by Hansal Mehta will see the actor follow his commands for the fourth time after critical films like Aligarh, CityLights and Shahid. These films flourished Rao as an actor. Omerta too has received international fame after its screening at the Toronto Film Festival last year.
Produced by Nahid Khan and presented by Swiss Entertainment, the movie will finally hit theaters in India on April 20.
