Tollywood has gotten off to a pretty rough start this year. Some highly expected films like the 2-part NTR biopic and the Ram Charan starrer Vinaya Vidheya Rama have bitten the dust at the box office. F2: Fun and Frustration is the biggest blockbuster of the year so far for the industry. Finally, the industry has seen its 2nd hit of the year in the form of the KV Guhan directed 118, starring Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, Nivetha Thomas and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles.
As we had predicted in our earlier box office report on the film, 118 has emerged profitable to the buyers in its first week itself, getting a total worldwide share of around 7.5 CR (which is comfortably more than the breakeven mark). The majority of the numbers have come from the Telugu states, and the film hasn’t done well in the USA. The Mahashivratri holiday on Monday has benefited the collections substantially, as the film in fact performed better on Monday than its opening Friday.
118 is a much-needed comeback hit for Kalyan Ram and gives one more success to its lead ladies Nivetha and Shalini. The film doesn’t have much competition in the near future and is expected to do well for a couple more weeks. Superstar Mahesh Babu has also seen 118 and expressed his appreciation for the film through a generous tweet.
