Supertsar Rajinikanth’s Petta, directed by his hardcore fan Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, completes 50 days of its handsome run today with sizable shows across Tamil Nadu. The film has grossed about 110 crore in TN and the worldwide gross is close to 225 crore. Petta could gross more than 100 crore in TN despite releasing along with Viswasam, which has been on an astoundingly steady run in the state.
Petta is the 3rd century grosser in the state for the superstar after Enthiran and the recent 2.0. After Kaala couldn’t perform in line with the expectations that one has from a Rajini film, 2.0 and Petta have reinforced his market pull and box office stamina. Petta is the 7th double century worldwide grosser from Kollywood and the 4th such film for Rajini.
Petta was given extraordinary patronage from superstar’s fans and also the young audience who took a major liking to Anirudh’s music and the film’s stylish presentation. Karthik Subbaraj could understand the pulse of Rajini’s loyalists exactly and presented him in a robust, massy avatar like how we’ve seen and enjoyed him in his 90s blockbusters like Baasha and Padayappa.
Hearty wishes to the Petta team which ‘Rajinified’ countless fans all over again.
