Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha’s last release 96, directed by C Prem Kumar was nothing short of a blockbuster that booked a memorable place in the hearts of the Tamil audiences. This breezy romantic entertainer left the audiences having a pleasant smile at the end of an emotional roller coaster ride. Ram and Jaanu will go on to be one of the best written and favourite characters in the history of Tamil cinema. Not to forget, the scintillating musical score by Govind Vasantha, which elevated the mood of every single scene to a whole new level. Ever since the audio released, the 'Kaadhale Kaadhale' song has found its way to being a very popular mobile caller tune and ringtone for the youngsters. With these many positive aspects associated with it, 96 is being remade in Kannada and Telugu languages.
The Kannada remake has Golden Star Ganesh and actress Bhavana playing the leads, while the Telugu version features Sharwanand and Samantha. The first look poster of the Kannada remake is officially out and it features Ganesh in a rugged makeover. For those who have seen 96 in Tamil, this first look might be a little disappointing as the tone, mood and the colour theme of the poster is completely contrasting. This poster gives a feel of a complete action entertainer and not that of a romantic feel-good drama. The soulfulness and the breeziness which was the major strength of 96 is not seen in the first look poster of the Kannada remake. The poster has been receiving severe backlash from a certain section of audiences in Kollywood. However, it is too early to arrive at judgements about the remake, as the film is yet to be released. The shooting has been completely wrapped up and the film is in its post-production stages.
This film is titled as ‘99’ and is directed by Preetham Gubbi & produced by Ramu Films. Also, 99 happens to be the 100th project for the film’s music director Arjun Janya. On the other hand, the Telugu remake starring Sharwanand and Samantha as the leads, is directed by Prem Kumar, who directed the original version. This yet-to-be titled film is produced by Dil Raju for Sri Venkateswara Creations.
