The combination of Shankar and AR Rahman is one of the most loved unions in Kollywood, giving rise to so many memorable songs and themes that stay evergreen forever. However, after the laborious work that they had put in for 2.0, the director and the composer decided to take a break. That gave space for hotshot composer Anirudh to come on board, marking his first outing with both Shankar and Kamal Haasan as a musician. Anirudh had earlier sung the track Mersalaayiten for Shankar's I, the Chiyaan Vikram starrer.
In one of his recent interactions, Anirudh has spilled the beans on his journey with Shankar, calling him an elder brother. "In November 2017, Shankar sir had called me to tell that we would be working together, and I've been excited ever since then. Due to the delays in 2.0, I got a year of time to work on the album. We've now locked down most of the songs with the shoot starting recently." Ask him about living up to the standards of the prequel in terms with the music, and Anirudh’s reply is quick and firm. "Indian is a chartbuster cult album that people still listen to today. Even I've been revisiting the songs a lot recently. I really don't know if I can recreate the legendary magic, but I'll give it the best of my ability and see what works out. You've to listen to it and tell me how it is" he said.
Indian 2, which is currently being shot at lavish sets erected by art director Muthuraj, will be wrapped up by the end of the year. The film is targeting a grand release in 3 languages by the second quarter of 2020.
