Even though the first part was panned by critics for its empty storyline and unexciting narration, Dhanush’s Maari went on to become a decent performer at the box office reaping slight profits in line with its miniscule budget. Owing to that, Dhanush and director Balaji Mohan joined hands once again for the sequel, which is now ready for release on the 21st of December.
Opening up on how this film will be different from the first, Balaji Mohan said that Maari 2 focuses on the same character, but he faces a different set of situations. “While the first part had a backdrop of pigeon racing, it will be absent in Maari 2. Over there, we had just focused on two factors – fun and mass. But here, it is more of a deep and layered story which has enough space for emotions. It’s a wholesome entertainment package,” he said in a recent interview.
Balaji Mohan also added that he is not looking at the release traffic, and is only working towards the best possible output of his film. “My side of work is to prepare the content properly and deliver it. I’m only concentrating on that,” he concluded.
Maari 2 features a large star cast consisting of Dhanush, Sai Pallavi, Krishna, Tovino Thomas, Varu Sarathkumar, Robo Shankar and others. The film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has come up with three tracks in the album.
