Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's 2016 film Pink was one of the most applauded films of that year and we still talk about the pertinence of its content and message. It bagged the National Award in the Best Film category, among others honours, leaving the artists elated. In the present time, the relevance of similar films is only rising. It is of no surprise that a Tamil remake of Pink is in making. The project is being produced by Boney Kapoor, who calls this an ode to late wife Sridevi.
Southern superstar Ajith will be seen essaying Amitabh Bachchan's role in the remake, titled AK 59. "When we met him in Chennai, even Ajith said that he had seen it. Then, Sri suggested that we remake the social drama and he, too, jumped at the idea,” Kapoor told DNA, adding that it was Sridevi's desire that a film be made with Ajith. The film will also feature Vidya Balan as Ajith's wife, in a special appearance. The producer also revealed that he has remake rights of Ayushmann Khurrana's Badhaai Ho as well.
Boney Kapoor, ever since he began his journey as a producer, has backed over 15 Hindi remakes of South Indian films. To take a Hindi film down South is a new venture for him. Sridevi, who passed away on February 24th, 2018, had incidentally debuted with a Tamil film and went on to do many more.
Meanwhile, we are waiting to find out who will be essaying the female protagonists.
