Director Gopi Nainar who shot to fame with Nayanthara's Aramm became quite a controversial name in Kollywood when he alleged that the story of Thalapathy Vijay's 2014 movie Kaththi had been stolen from his works. After a prolonged dispute, the issue was settled rather contentiously. Gopi Nainar was said to have started his second project with actor Jai in the lead, towards the latter half of 2018. There were various theories as to what the subject of this project would be. Now, we have exclusive details about this project!
Jai and Gopi Nainar's project has been titled Karuppar Nagaram and the movie is based on football played in the slum regions of Chennai. There is said to be a whole lot of difference in the way the game of football is played across the world as compared to the way it is played in the slums of Chennai and this movie is said to delve a lot into these differences. Jai is reportedly playing an IT professional, who plays football for passion. Karuppar Nagaram seems to have quite a lot of similarities to Pa. Ranjith's Madras, the storyline for which was originally alleged to have been stolen from Gopi Nainar.
Actress Aishwarya Rajessh is touted to be playing an important role in this movie, which will see Mahima Nambiar playing Jai's pair. Also, Danny of Bigg Boss fame is playing Jai's friend in the movie. Karuppar Nagaram is said to be set in 3 different platforms - a football ground, a political setup and a jail portion. Actor Jai himself revealed all the above details in a recent media interaction and also added, "This movie will be along the lines of Madras, more than Vada Chennai. Similar to Madras, there will be a sequence involving a wall, in our movie also!"
