At the Chennai city box office, it was a weekend dominated by the RJ Balaji starrer LKG which saw off all the competition comfortably. With a 3-day opening gross of 1.38 crore (0.32+0.51+0.55), LKG was miles ahead of the other new release Kanne Kalaimaane which could gross only 52 lakhs (17+14+21). LKG had a fantastic weekend all over TN too. In the third place was the Santhanam starrer Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 which can now be called a superhit. The film has grossed 3.96 crore in Chennai after 18 days of its run.
The new Ajay Devgn starrer Total Dhamaal followed in 4th spot with a gross of 22 lakhs in its opening 3 days. Gully Boy was in the fifth spot, grossing 1.04 crore at the end of 11 days. Gully Boy is now playing with English subtitles in all Chennai theatres and the local Tamil audience is also enjoying the film now.
The Pongal blockbusters Viswasam, Petta and Uri still found a spot each in the Top 10; the three films have grossed 13.21 crore, 15.63 crore, and 1.35 crore respectively in Chennai so far. They will be completing 50 days in theaters towards the end of this week.
The Karthi starrer Dev has been washed away completely. At the end of 11 days, the film has grossed 2.06 crore in Chennai; the past 3 days saw a gross addition of just 4 lakhs. Disaster!
