As expected, Thadam topped the weekend Chennai city box office comfortably by pushing 90 ML to the second spot; the latter opened better but Thadam could catch up really fast due to the fabulous word of mouth that it has generated among the audience. Thadam grossed 92 lakhs in 3 days (23+33+36), while 90 ML has grossed 82 lakhs in 3 days (30+28+24). The trends in the daily collections clearly show that Thadam has gained the upper hand while 90 ML is losing steam.
Last weekend’s topper LKG followed in the 3rd spot grossing 2.7 crore totally after 10 days, while the other new releases Luka Chuppi (with a gross of 24 lakhs in 3 days) and Thirumanam (with a gross of 16 lakhs in 3 days) completed the Chennai box office’s weekend Top 5. The Cheran directed Thirumanam is being labeled too melodramatic and outdated in its treatment despite handling a relevant subject.
Last weekend’s other new release Kanne Kalaimaane has crashed to the bottom of the pile, grossing 79 lakhs in Chennai after 10 days. The film has unfortunately been rejected by the audience despite getting good reviews from the media. Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 still features in the Top 10 and has grossed 4.12 crore in Chennai after 25 days of its successful run.Read More
