Dhanush made his directorial debut with Pa Paandi in 2017, which went on to become a super hit. The film, starring Rajkiran, Prasanna and Revathy, was well received by the audience. Now, his second directorial was touted to be a bilingual featuring an extensive star cast. Presumably releasing in Tamil and Telugu, the film was all set to see Nagarjuna, Aditi Rao Hydari, SJ Suryah, Sarath Kumar and Srikanth in the lead roles. It was to be produced by Hema Rukmani and Murali Ramasamy of Thenandal Studios Limited. However, now we hear that the film has been dropped.
Our source said, “Dhanush’s second directorial project has been dropped due to lack of funds from Thenandal Studios Limited. Dhanush's Wunderbar Films is also not in a position to fund the film and hence they've decided to shelve the project. It is a big scale project that demands a high budget, but TSL is not in a position to bankroll the project as of now.” The production house’s last was Vijay's Mersal that came in 2017. The film had incurred a big loss for the producers, despite the film being a profitable venture for the distributors and theatre owners. TSL are yet to release their other films like Iravaakkaalam and Oxygen, and we hear that the Ashwin Saravanan directorial too is yet to complete the dubbing process due to lack of funds.
Earlier it was announced that Dhanush, besides helming the project as its director, would have also played the lead role. The film’s official pooja happened a few months back. Dhanush had revealed that the film was supposed to be made on a humongous budget of Rs 100 crores.
